Transition and Career Studies

The Transition and Career Studies (TCS) Program at 51³Ô¹Ï is a comprehensive two-year certificate designed to support students with diverse learning needs as they prepare for academic success, meaningful employment, and full participation in college life.

Rooted in 51³Ô¹Ï’s Mission of access, inclusion, and student-centered learning, the program provides students with an integrated college experience that blends academic coursework, career development, and engagement in the vibrant 51³Ô¹Ï campus community.

Students in the TCS Program participate in a combination of specialized TCS courses and inclusive, credit-bearing 51³Ô¹Ï classes taken alongside their peers.

Students engage in authentic college-level expectations while learning in collaborative, supportive environments. Individualized supports and coaching help students build independence, self-advocacy, and executive-functioning skills needed for ongoing academic and personal growth.

A central focus of the TCS Program at 51³Ô¹Ï is meaningful inclusion in all aspects of campus life. Students are encouraged and supported to join clubs, attend campus events, participate in recreational and wellness activities, and utilize college resources such as the Learning Commons, Student Center, and Career Services. These experiences foster social development, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging within the 51³Ô¹Ï community.

Career Exploration, Peer Mentoring, Social Skills

Career exploration and preparation are integrated throughout the two-year program. Students engage in interest assessments, workplace readiness instruction, job-shadowing, and campus or community internships. By the end of the program, students build a career portfolio and develop the competencies necessary for competitive or supported employment aligned with their strengths and long-term goals.

Graduates of the TCS Program will have:

  • Strengthened foundational academic skills needed for continued education or training
  • Demonstrated independence, self-advocacy, and personal responsibility
  • Participated fully in the academic and social life of 51³Ô¹Ï
  • Gained real-world work experience through hands-on internships
  • Prepared a transition plan outlining next steps in employment, education, or community engagement

The TCS Program empowers students to pursue meaningful futures and become active, confident members of both the 51³Ô¹Ï community and the broader workforce.
