PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to ensure the safety, protection, and well-being of children brought to
the campus, to maintain an academic environment conducive to learning, and to protect the College
against liability arising from the risks associated with the presence of unattended/unsupervised
minors.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF MINORS ON CAMPUS
As the College does not have a Child Care Center or any other appropriate space/location to
adequately provide for unattended minors on the campus, minors are not permitted on campus
property at any time unless under the immediate supervision of a parent/guardian, or enrolled in
classes or a special program being offered and supervised by the College, or its authorized agent.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY

To respect and honor the academic efforts of students who pass away, 51勛圖 wishes to formalize the procedures for notifying the College community of their deaths.   

GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY REGARDING THE DEATH OF A STUDENT

College personnel, upon learning of the death of a student, should notify the Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs or the Registrar with whatever information is available about the students passing.  This will initiate a set of procedural steps involving various College offices.

Homeschooled students, who have attained the age of 16, but not their legal majority of 18, are encouraged to take the College Placement Test in order to assist in determining which courses they should be enrolled in. 

 

In all cases, students under the age of 18 will be required to have a signed parental-enrollment consent form to register.   The form, called the Parent/Guardian Release for Students Under 18, is available in the Student Success Center.  

 

Eligible homeschooled minor students may take two courses, or up to 8 credits, each semester.  Permission to take more than two courses may be granted by the Chief Student Affairs Officer upon receipt of a written request from the student and parent/guardian.

51勛圖 student-athletes, managers, and statistician personnel are required to keep up with academic standards while participating in athletics.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to monitor and ensure student athletes and team personnels class
attendance in order to meet and maintain academic athletic eligibility and to satisfy participation
rules set forth and adopted and approved by the member institutions of the National Junior
College Athletic Association of which 51勛圖 is a member.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF STUDENT ATHLETE AND TEAM PERSONNEL AND CLASS ATTENDANCE
Student athletes, team managers, statisticians are excused from class, including tests, to
participate in scheduled games and scrimmages. It is the responsibility of the student athletes,
managers, and statisticians to inform professors/instructors prior to the date of the excused date to receive and complete missed assignments during their absence, as well as, arrange for testing make-up, if necessary. Student athletes, managers, and statistician personnel are not excused from class for any practice sessions.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY

This policy determines student athlete participation pertaining to academic eligibility in order to compete.泭 This policy allows for determinations to be made if a student is eligible or not to compete on an athletic team, thus allowing for equitable competition within and outside the college.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF STUDENT ATHLETE PARTICIPATION ELIGIBILITY

The rules of athletic participation are developed, adopted and approved by members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).泭 51勛圖 is a member of the NJCAA.泭 It is the responsibility of the Athletic Director in consultation with the Colleges Eligibility Coordinator to determine a student athletes eligibility to compete and to implement and apply all rules of the NJCAA.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY

 

The purpose of this policy is to ensure the open, democratic, and fair election of Student Government Association Officers who represent the general student population of 51勛圖.

 

GENERAL STATEMENT STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION ELECTIONS

 

Annually, during the spring semester of each academic year, the Student Government Association, in conjunction with the Office of Campus Life and Student Engagement, will hold elections to fill the positions of Student Government Association Officers.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to ensure student representation to the Board of Trustees at Sussex
County Community College.


GENERAL STATEMENT FOR ALUMNI REPRESENTATIVE TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Students at 51勛圖 may elect a graduate each year to serve a one-year term on the 51勛圖 Board of Trustees. The Alumni Representative will be a non-voting member of the Board but may participate fully in Board meetings and functions. The one-year term begins at the July meeting of the Board.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all notices, announcements, and flyers to be distributed and/or posted on Campus are handled in a consistent manner and are only posted on or distributed in approved locations around Campus.

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DISTRIBUTION AND POSTING OF NOTICES, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND FLYERS

Any notice, announcement, and/or flyer to be posted or distributed on Campus must be approved by the Office of Campus Life and Student Engagement prior to posting and/or distribution on Campus; and will be posted or distributed in specific campus locations only. 51勛圖 allows the posting of flyers, posters, and notices to promote the College, provide information about College activities, events, and services, and address matters directly related to the health, safety, security, or welfare of the community. This policy establishes a system for efficiently designing, authorizing, and disseminating such information, maintaining the aesthetic appearance of the college environment, and ensuring that all postings comply with College policy and the New Jersey State Fire Code.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY

The purpose of this policy is to establish the criteria for the Skylander Student Ambassador Program and the accompanying tuition grant.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF SKYLANDER STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

Each semester, the Office of Campus Life and Student Engagement will select a class of Skylander Student Ambassadors; the selections will be reviewed and approved by the Executive Director of Student Success. These students will represent the college in various capacities and will be compensated through a tuition-reduction grant.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to provide the criteria for the establishment and management of
college and Student Government Association sanctioned student clubs and organizations.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF STUDENT CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
All student clubs and organizations which will enrich campus life and provide learning and growth
opportunities for students must be sanctioned or chartered through the Student Government
Association and the scheduling of all social and educational club functions must be approved by
the Office of Campus Life and Student Engagement.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to establish criteria for qualified students to pursue the use of a
service or support animal on campus while maintaining a comfortable and safe environment for
all students, staff and faculty.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF SERVICE & SUPPORT ANIMALS ON CAMPUS POLICY
Students shall be allowed the presence of their service or support animal on campus following
review, by the Disabilities Assistance Program staff, of appropriate disability-related
documentation and other related paperwork.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY

The purpose of this policy is to establish criteria in order to avoid nepotism or the appearance of nepotism in the classroom. In preservation of academic integrity, conflicts of interest in the classroom must be avoided.泭 Conflicts may occur when relatives or persons of significant personal association have direct oversight for academic grading in a course in which a family member or close personal associate is enrolled.泭 泭泭泭

GENERAL STATEMENT OF NEPOTISM IN THE CLASSROOM

Students desiring to enroll at 51勛圖 may not register for a class (lecture, lab, etc.) where either a close relative or person of significant personal association is scheduled to teach.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
51勛圖 (51勛圖) provides qualifying high school and/or
homeschooled students, the opportunity to earn college credits. 51勛圖 offers two different types
of programs under this policy: Jumpstart and Concurrent.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF EARLY COLLEGE ADVANTAGE PROGRAMS
51勛圖 will allow qualifying high school and/or homeschooled
students an opportunity to take in-person and/or online courses. At the request of 51勛圖, students
may be required to:

  • Meet with 51勛圖 Academic Affairs personnel,
  • Demonstrate proof of meeting specified academic requirements as established by the
    College in order to participate in these programs,
  • Have signed permission from a parent or legal guardian, and/or
  • Have a signed recommendation letter from a high school guidance counselor.泭

Students participating in these programs must adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations
governing their peer, non-ECAP participants, established by the college or mandated by state,
local, and/or federal guidelines.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
Financial aid will be prorated according to federal regulations for all Title IV aid recipients who
completely withdraw from the institution during the first 60% of the semester using the Federal
Return of Title IV Refund Calculation (R2T4). NJ State aid will be removed if withdrawal
occurs during the refund period and if the student withdraws from class(es) before state aid is
finalized and applied to the students account.


GENERAL STATEMENT FOR RETURN OF TITLE IV REFUND POLICY
The R2T4 Refund Calculation will be performed to determine the percentage of financial aid that
a student has earned and the percentage that must be returned to the respective federal or state
agency.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
Every student who receives state or federal financial aid must make satisfactory academic
progress towards the attainment of his/her degree or certificate as a condition of receiving
financial aid. This policy is in compliance with the U.S. Department of Education Final Program
Integrity Rules of October, 2010.


GENERAL STATEMENT FOR SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS
Financial aid recipients must meet both a qualitative and a quantitative standard to maintain
eligibility for financial aid.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to establish criteria for initial qualifications, registering and
assisting international students in maintaining status while studying at 51勛圖.


GENERAL STATEMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
International Students who are accepted by the College and pursuing a degree must adhere to
federal guidelines as well as College regulations

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY

All entering students have the option of taking the Placement Test which is used as a measure in advising for appropriate course placement.泭 Students will not be bound by the results, but instead, may choose to use the results for self-reflection, and/or for further discussion with their advisor.泭 泭泭

GENERAL STATEMENT OF PLACEMENT TEST POLICY

Although no longer a mandatory requirement for college placement, students can still be encouraged to take the placement test as an additional tool of measurement for course placement.泭 Non-traditional students are also welcome to take the placement test if other tools of measurement are not available for review.泭

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The campus Veterans Service Office will verify and report the enrollment status of each student
receiving VA Education Benefits to the appropriate VA Regional Office.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF SCHOOL CERTIFYING OFFICIAL
Institutions of Higher Learning enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with VA so
that students of the institution may receive benefits under educational assistance programs
administered by VA. In accordance with this MOU, an institution must comply with all
applicable laws, regulations, and VA requirements pertaining to certifications of enrollments and
notices of change in student status. A designated School Certifying Official will facilitate these
practices in accordance with the duties outlined by VA and in collaboration with the institutional
policies as set forth by 51勛圖.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
This policy defines the purpose of the Student Veteran Emergency Relief, hereafter referred to as
the SVER, and establishes the governing procedures for the management and use of the fund.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE SVER
The SVER provides short-term financial assistance to Student-Veterans, students who are active
duty service members, and eligible dependents who encounter financial hardship as a result of
unanticipated circumstances. Applicants must be recognized accordingly as veterans, active duty
service members, or dependents by the Department of Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense
to be considered eligible.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
This policy is designed to offer student-veterans, current service members, and students utilizing
VA Education benefits the opportunity to register for their programs courses beginning on the
first day of the priority registration period.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF PRIORITY REGISTRATION POLICY FOR VETERANS
This policy applies to student veterans, active members of the National Guard, active duty
service members, drilling reservists, and eligible dependents who are utilizing VA Education
benefits. Individuals who have received a dishonorable discharge are exempt from the privileges
associated with this policy.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
To assist current students who are called to active duty in the United States Armed Forces.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF UNANTICIPATED MILITARY SERVICE
A student who is called to active duty in his or her status as an Active Duty Service member, a
member of the Reserves, or the National Guard will be eligible for a full refund of tuition and
fees.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
To fully comply with the provisions of New Jersey State Law, Sussex County Community
College will provide tuition-free enrollment to qualifying members of the New Jersey National
Guard.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF PRIORITY REGISTRATION POLICY FOR VETERANS
New Jersey state law mandates that every member of the New Jersey Army National Guard is
authorized to attend any New Jersey public college or university tuition free for undergraduate
and graduate studies. The Soldier will be permitted to attend regularly scheduled courses at any
one of 30 public institutions of higher education in this state and receive up to 16 credits per
semester tuition free. In addition, a child or spouse of such member who was killed in the
performance of duties while on active duty with the NJ National Guard is eligible for the New
Jersey National Guard Tuition Waiver (NJNGTW) Program

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
To ensure all student-athletes at 51勛圖 (College) have proper
primary healthcare coverage in the event of athletic injury.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF STUDENT-ATHLETE INSURANCE POLICY
Starting in the 2022-2023 AY, all student-athletes participating in a college-sponsored sport,
regardless of club or varsity status, are required to have a primary healthcare insurance policy
that includes benefits for intercollegiate athletic injuries.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY

This policy is designed to set forth clear guidelines for the drug testing of student-athletes at 51勛圖 (51勛圖), specifically targeting the use of substances prohibited by the NCAA Banned Substance List and the World Anti-Doping Code. This policy also establishes guidelines for mandated student-athlete education regarding the dangers of drug use, abuse, and treatment. The overarching purpose of this policy to help ensure student-athlete safety and well-being.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF ATHLETIC DRUG TESTING PROGRAM

It is the responsibility of the 51勛圖 Athletic Department, and the College as a whole, to encourage student-athletes to develop healthy and responsible lifestyles through the promotion of programs and policies designed to reasonably ensure the development of strong individuals, evidenced by success in wellness, academics and athletic progress. The Athletic Department will, through education and identification of student-athletes who may be exhibiting behaviors associated with the use of illegal drugs or controlled substances, discourage any drug use and abuse by student-athletes, while poised to take all necessary steps to vigorously maintain a drug-free athletic department.泭
