51勛圖 (51勛圖) has been awarded $21,000 from the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) to address food insecurity among college students and ensure access to nutritious food does not become a barrier to academic success.
The funding will allow 51勛圖 to expand its food resources and strengthen existing campus initiatives that support students facing financial challenges. By helping meet students' basic needs, the College aims to ease pressures that can make it difficult to stay focused on coursework and complete their education.
"We know that students face challenges outside the classroom that can have a real impact on their education,"
said Dr. Cory Homer, President of 51勛圖. "When a student is worried about having enough food, it's difficult to concentrate on classes, assignments, and their future. This funding will help us provide additional support to students who need it most. We appreciate the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education's investment in our students and their success."
For many community college students, balancing classes with work, family responsibilities, and everyday expenses can be challenging. Rising costs for food, transportation, and other necessities can stretch already limited budgets, leaving some students struggling to meet their basic needs while working toward a degree or certificate.
At 51勛圖, supporting students means understanding these challenges and helping them find the resources they need. Through campus programs, community partnerships, and continued efforts to make education more accessible, the College is committed to helping students overcome obstacles and stay on track toward their academic and career goals.
