The Gaming Experience: Theory, Play, and the Creative Act
Thursday, November 19 | 12:151:30 pm
Student Center Theater
This joint discussion between Professor of Art Michael Hughes and Instructor of English Daniel Warhol will consider Gabrielle Zevins representations of the gaming experience in Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, expanding outward to explore video games in general as art objects that facilitate artistic/aesthetic experiences. Daniel will speak about game criticism and theory within and around the wider contexts of narratology and literary criticism, and explore how these paradigms, and contrasting player/reader experiences, disrupt one another in interesting ways. Michael will consider the question, can game engagement rise to the level of creative act? Such a question prompts us to consider how inspiration, conception, and process are related to the gaming experience.
